Bring the support and balance developed through AXIS into larger movements and greater physical demands.
About AXIS Integration
A new way of supporting yourself may become available in a quiet setting. As movement and sensory demands increase, however, familiar patterns can return.
AXIS Integration is the next stage of this work. Through varied movement practice, including strength and muscular control, we explore how to carry your new sense of support and balance into movement—and how to find it again when you need to.
The aim is not to hold one fixed alignment at all times. It is to notice what changes as you move and learn to adjust your support and coordination to what your body needs in that moment.
AXIS develops a new foundation for support and balance
in a quiet setting.
Integration brings that foundation into strength,
coordination and larger movements.
What happens in a session
- Check in with your body and the support and balance developed through AXIS
- Observe how your body responds as movement and physical demands increase
- Work with strength, muscular control and whole-body coordination
- Notice when familiar patterns return during movement
- Return to small AXIS movements or sensory input when helpful
- Repeat a movement and compare your body’s responses and sense of support
- Choose movements and exercises for your home practice
How we choose movements
Depending on what we are working on, sessions draw on exercises informed by anatomy and biomechanics, as well as Pilates and dance movement.
Each session is built around your current needs. The movements and level of physical demand are selected individually, guided by your body’s condition and the responses we have observed through AXIS.
Building strength is one part of the work. We also explore how that strength is used: muscular control, timing and coordination throughout the body.
What we pay attention to
- How your support and balance change during movement and under load
- How support and weight are distributed
- When muscles engage and the direction in which they produce movement
- Whole-body coordination and how movements connect with one another
- Changes in breathing and bodily sensation
- Situations in which familiar patterns are more likely to return
- How your body finds its support and balance again after movement
- Changes between sessions and in everyday life
Who this is for
AXIS Integration is primarily offered as the next stage for people who have been working with AXIS.
Once a new sense of support and balance becomes available in a quiet setting, Integration provides a way to explore it in everyday life, larger movements, exercise and other activities.
When to begin Integration, and how to introduce it, are considered individually, based on what we have observed during your AXIS sessions.
Practice between sessions
Movements and exercises for home practice are selected individually, based on your body’s responses during the session.
Between sessions, you observe how your body responds in daily life and exercise, including whether you can find your new sense of support and balance again after movement or increased sensory demands. We review these observations together at your next session.
