Clinical Somatics (SMC®)
Restore how you use your body through neuromuscular re-learning
Compared with SenseBody AXIS—our systematic, full-body program over about two months—
Clinical Somatics is designed as an accessible entry point to help unwind your current “tension patterns.”
Because it can be taken as a single session, it’s an easy place to begin.
After the session, you’ll take home a simple set of exercises you can practice on your own.
About this program
Overview
Clinical Somatics (SMC®) is based on Thomas Hanna’s Clinical Somatic Education (Hanna Somatics) and focuses on neuromuscular re-education.
When the body feels stiff, we often assume “my muscles are tight.” In many cases, however, the nervous system is simply running a pattern that keeps certain muscles contracted.
Rather than pushing through with strong stretching or intensity, we work by carefully re-engaging the sensorimotor system and updating how the body is organized for movement.
The key is not “muscles,” but nervous system patterns
Mechanism
Many long-standing issues of stiffness are maintained as whole-body tension patterns—often learned outside of awareness.
Sensory-Motor Amnesia
Even if someone says “just relax,” you may not be able to.
This doesn’t mean a lack of willpower—it may mean the nervous system has simply forgotten how to release.
Clinical Somatics supports re-learning that “release pattern,” step by step.
Pandiculation
Instead of stretching, we gently contract first, then return slowly.
This updates neuromuscular control—not by forcing the tissue, but by refining how the nervous system runs the movement.
The key is slow learning, not strong stimulus.
Another important point: we don’t focus only on one “problem area.”
We work with the body as a whole—because movement is always a whole-body event.
Who it’s for
Fit
Regardless of labels or diagnoses, this session may be a good fit if you experience:
- Tension or stiffness that doesn’t ease even after rest
- Stretching or strengthening that helps temporarily, then the same pattern returns
- Trying to “fix posture” makes you tense up or breathe shallowly
- Side-to-side imbalance, twisting, or one-sided overuse
- You’re not sure how to “relax,” even when you want to
*If you have severe pain, acute symptoms, or concerns that require medical evaluation, please consult an appropriate medical professional first.
Session flow (90 minutes)
Flow
1) Check-in & observation
Using simple standing/sitting movements, we explore where the body is working too hard and where release is difficult.
This is not about “judging”—it’s about creating the conditions for you to sense the difference.
2) Exercises (learning)
Through slow, gentle movements, we re-engage the sensorimotor system.
We prioritize the pace at which your internal sensing returns—more than doing it “perfectly.”
3) Home practice design
You’ll leave with a simple home practice (frequency, repetitions, and key notes) you can continue on your own.
The value of Clinical Somatics is that you gain tools for self-organization.
SenseBody program map
Axis / Somatic Pilates
SenseBody is structured around three pillars:
- 1|AXIS: A systematic full-body foundation built over about two months
- 2|Somatic Pilates®: Integration in movement—building resilience beyond the AXIS foundation
- 3|Clinical Somatics: A single-session entry point to re-learn and unwind current tension patterns
Clinical Somatics can also be a practical first step before committing to a longer program like AXIS— letting you experience how your body responds and leaving with a home practice you can continue.
Pricing & format
Price
Single session
- 90 minutes: ¥12,000

*No default “recommended package.” If helpful, we’ll discuss options for a next step based on your context.
Booking / questions
If you have a specific goal or concern, a short message is enough.
We can also help you choose the most suitable pathway (Clinical Somatics / AXIS, etc.).
*SenseBody sessions are offered as movement education. They are not medical diagnosis or treatment.
We support neuromuscular coordination and movement re-learning through a gentle, structured process.
